CDP

DISCLOSURE

In 2024, Hatenboer-Water was awarded a SME B rating by the CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project), which was the highest grade given to any SME that year. We’re also a 2025 Discloser and are now waiting for our rating. The CDP is a globally recognized nonprofit that assesses companies on their environmental performance, climate strategy, and transparency.

Together, we built a comprehensive carbon emissions inventory which includes direct emissions (Scope 1) from our Neptunus drinking water supply fleet, indirect emissions from purchased energy (Scope 2), and selected upstream and downstream activities within our value chain (partial Scope 3).

This top-tier rating strengthens our leadership position when it comes to reducing Greenhouse Gas emissions, improving water stewardship, and aligning with global climate targets. Our commitment to environmental responsibility is not only measurable, but also internationally recognized.

ISO

CERTIFICATES

To prove our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and environmental responsibility, our operations are certified according to international ISO standards. This reflects our dedication to continuous improvement and sustainable business practices.

Plastic Free

@SEA

Over 8 million tons of plastic bottles end up in the ocean each year. This growing environmental challenge threatens marine ecosystems and the very resource we depend on most. Considering how precious water is, Hatenboer-Water believes it is of the utmost importance to provide a solution to protect our oceans from plastic pollution.

Plastic Free @Sea was developed by leveraging our century-old knowledge of water management for the maritime industry. This alternative allows shipowners to not only reduce their ecological footprint, but also to save costs.

Plastic Free @Sea is based on robust, contact-free bottle filling stations/coolers with built-in filtration, to which it is possible to add POU treatment if needed. By equipping crews and passengers with reusable bottles, the need for single-use plastics is fully eliminated. This ensures reliable and safe drinking water on board anywhere, anytime, while also making life easier for the crew. With no need to order, store, or dispose of plastic bottles, operations become simpler, faster, and more efficient.

THE UNITED NATION'S 17

To make our impact transparent, we’ve mapped our business practices to three of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals.  Established in 2015, these goals are a global call to action to protect the planet, end poverty, and promote prosperity for all by 2030.

DUTCH WATER

LIMITED

Dutch Water Limited (DWL), based in Kenya, was founded by Hatenboer-Water and Reikon in 2006. Its mission is to make affordable, purified drinking water accessible to all local residents. The company takes pride in employing local men and women who would otherwise have had difficulties finding employment, as they lacked qualifying education certificates. In line with its founding principles, DWL reinvests 100% of profits locally, either into expanding production capacity, lowering prices, or supporting community projects rather than distributing dividends abroad.

Individuals can purchase 10-liter jerrycans and 18.9-liter dispenser bottles through local shops, ensuring convenient access for everyday use. DWL also provides larger volumes to hotels, transport companies, offices, government institutions, and factories, offering 18.9-liter dispenser bottles as well as per tank truck in bulk to meet diverse professional needs.

Additionally, DWL supplies bulk water to schools, hospitals, and orphanages, further increasing access in underserved areas. In partnership with Stitching Waterpas, an ANBI foundation, DWL donates clean drinking water to a wide range of schools in Mombasa, improving the health of more than 32,000 children every day at school. This contribution aligns with DWL’s commitment to supporting children in vulnerable circumstances.

Beyond providing safe water, this social enterprise exemplifies how business can drive sustainable impact. Indeed, it creates local jobs, improves community health, and promotes environmental responsibility through its circular jerrican system. These efforts reflect DWL’s five core objectives: delivering the best possible water quality, maximizing production and reach, generating profit for long-term continuity and reinvestment, creating local employment, and increasing awareness of the DWL brand to reach more consumers in need.
